As you fine Armorama friends know, I am a Fire Captain in Calif.

I'm assigned to a county fire dept, but am employed by the Calif. Dept. of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Seven firefighters were overrun by fire this afternoon in the Tuolomne River Canyon on the Stanislaus National Forest. One firefighter was killed, one suffered moderate injuries, five sustained minor injuries. The firefighters are not being identified at this time pending notification of their families. The six injured firefighters are all receiving medical attention. A joint CDF-US Forest Service Major Accident Investigation Team has been activated and will conduct a complete investigation of this incident. A CDF liaison has been assigned to assist each family.

My heart is shattered, please pray for the departed and the injured as well as their families.

Further info...it was a helitac crew on Copter 404 from Columbia, Calif.

We lost a Sister firefighter. The whole crew was involved.

More as I get it.

Thanks Gary.

I will say a extra prayer for the lives of those lost and injured and for their families. Keep fighting the good fight as we all should.

That stinks, my Dad was a fire ranger right out of school and I heard many stories of the work....
I'm sorry for you and all those involved...

My thoughts are with you and those left behind.

Thanks Folks for the kind words.
CDF has not had a fatality that I can remember in 20+ years.

Here is the latest info I have.

Stanislaus National Forest, Groveland Ranger District, A nine person CDF helitack crew was part of an initial attack force responding to the Tuolumne fire around 12:30 PM. Fire was approximately 15 acres in steep terrain with slopes in excess of 100%. Seven crew members were in the process of cutting line when the fire flared up, over running the crew. One fire fighter was killed and 6 others injured. No shelters were deployed.

Thanks so much for the support, I did not know the young Firefighter, but the lose of one affects us all.
