Howdy,

Thx for the heads up on the Article matt. I'm glad someone on Staff decided to 'officially' announce it.

Our good Brother Pouch has once again given us all something we can use (when has he ever not?)
He even writes it in a manner that keeps it simple, and easy to use. I for one am very grateful to Cliff for sharing this with us all, for, armed with just this simple little 'ditty' novice scratchbuilders now have a new tool in their modeling tackle box that will enable them to 'tackle' most any project that intrigues them or catches their fancy.

Bloody good on ya mate!

{tranlated from the ancient Australian dialect, that means....."Thanks Cliff!"..

Tread.

Oh, after all this 'butter', I can't possibly leave without one 'nit' now can I?
Add an example using inches for those of us who don't think in '10's'.......

Rather simple, and even though I live in a country using inches, I have always found it easier to use metric when it came to measuring for modelling.

Thanks Cliff.... nice article.

....Funny you should say that you old 'fart' ....I too have lived in this country for most of my life (since fall of 1964), but was originally educated in Preston, England where I was taught the metric system from the 'get-go'. I had to go through a rather difficult time of it relearning the U.S. system of measurement when I moved here. But I always thought in 10''s....

For the record, I always excelled in Math classes (but rebelled at the rather tedious 'roteness' (sp?) of it all, taught myself basic Geometry in three days so I could pass the 'A' school in the 'Corp, and then advanced to get my degree in Architecture.
I have always embraced the idea of 'thinking in 10's'.....I can still do advanced math in my head before anybody else can even remotely come up with the answer.....

Oops.....my apologies. I just realized that my rant was rather self serving.......................still true though.

hehe.

thanks for the comments guys.

PS> tread I also was bought up on feet and inches and changed to metric when New Zealand changed over but I still do some things in imperial measurements but not models

Yep, I always found it easier to use MM instead of 3/64" when measuring for models. Although when I really want to be a**l retentive in measuring I breakout my old Murphy's Rulers. But I use the MKI eyeball a lot, and a lot of Guessage, and close-enough for goverment work also. As long as I try to get the major measurements correct, or as close to correct as my senile mind, and worn out MKI, will allow, I don't worry whether I got every nut in the exact mm spot......
Oh my newest toy for scratchbuilding is a balsa wood stripper.... each turn of the knob moves the blade 1/32 inch in or out, since the knob is on an 8-32 screw, and you simply set the blade to lightly score the card, then follow up with your #11 to cut through. Simple straight cuts each time.
