Here are some pictures of two snipers I made wearing Ghillie Suits in the Mountains of Afghanistan. This is my first attempt at this. I used gauze painted tan for the base of the suit and string from an old pair of twill khaki's painted differant shades of tan, brown and green as the ghillie material. Comments would be welcomed. Hope you all enjoy

Very cool, they look the part. I would only suggest incorporating some of the surrounding foliage into the suits. Snipers often collect foliage from the environment they will be operating into their suits.

Ironically the better you make the ghillie suits the less anyone will be able to see anything

I took those photos in flourescent light last night. As soon as Hurricane Charlie blows over here, I will try to take some photos at ground level during normal day light. Thanks for all the compliments. I'll try to post some better pictures soon.

Very nice looking ghillie suits, t27. One suggestion for any more of these you build is to mix the colors of the threads more as the contrast between the green/brown and the sand color is very harsh. I can't wait to see the ground level photos. That is, if the figures don't blow away in the first place.

Yes, I have a ghillie suit, and have made a number of them, I use it for turkey hunting. I like your interpretation, and I too have a sniper scene I would like to do. I would suggest that the nature of the ghillie suit is to blend in with the surrounding environment. I would definitley consider adding more of the elements that you used in the base to the suit itself. A "good" ghiliie would incorperate much less of the jute strings and more of the natural surroundings. The commercial ghillies are much different in comparison to the militarys. Each sniper when in sniper school will design their own,and use a ratio of about 30-40% combination of man materials (jute twine dyed in three or four colors, burlap or camoflage material) the remainder would be natural materials native to the area of the assignment. If you wish more info let me know.

well done. I have seen before CMK has 2 figures in ghillie suit, yours are as good as those figures maybe better.
CMK figures
what did you use as the figures? DML or something different?

I think Trouble27's snipers are way better than the CMK ones. The CMK ones look like little shaggy dogs.
