I remember reading, here I think, about Academy releasing a set of furniture pieces. Can anyone tell me where this set is available? I think the article said Academy Europe. Does that mean it will only be available in European countries?

This set should be available in Germany, as I found information about it on Academy Europe website, which is actually Academy Germany page.

from what people are saying seems the have bought a few verlinden moulds and pushing thrm out in plastic supposed to be doing 120mm figs as well

Well, they're really cheap compared to other dio pieces. The only problem is their availability.
