Hi all
I know that iam a bit late with this but just moved to the U.S.thought that this might be of interest. My father landed on D-Day with the 2Mons 53 Welsh Div.
They were involved in bitter fighting durig the battle for Caen they fought around a small town called Mondrainville and rested there for a while before pushing on.
My father returned 40 years later with some fellow comrades one of which was Edward Chapman VC BEM , they have made many friends over the years and have built up a wonderful relationship between a school in Mondrainville and a school in my dad local town, the children have visted each other and they attended the 60th.
Onthe 50th they named a road after Edward Chapman and when my father went back for the 60th the town has named the school after my father and his good friend Tom Griffiths also of the 2nd Mons it is called the
Ecole Edwards-Griffiths it was avery proud time for all concerned but a very sad one remembering all that never came back .

Well, first of all, welcome to the site, and many thanks to your father and all those who served. Oh, where are originally from? Thanks for your time.

Tango20, first of all, or second, after MEBM, welcome to the site, you'll have a lot of fun here. For us ignorant colonials could you explain what "mons" as in 2 mons, means?
