What do you think is the best way to make RTV molds?
I'm considering making a few copies if a verlinden acessory set, and just wanted to know what works best for you?
I'm currently using automotive silicone RTV, and just need a few more tips.

Thanks, John

Greetings all,
I've been using RTV, (Mold Max 30), made by Smooth On.
http://www.smooth-on.com/liqrubr.htm
It's a bit less expensive then Dow Corning and is every bit as good a product. To get good bubble free molds it's best to vucuum your RTV after mixing and again after pouring into your mold box with pattern. For this, however, one needs a vacuum pump and chamber. Lacking this equipment, serviceable molds can be made by vibrating the mold box/pattern on a table saw while cutting scrap wood or by setting your mold box on some scrap and sanding with an electric sander. Check 'em out. God luck and have fun. Scott

I usually go to a store called plastic supply and get dow corning RTV it costs $26.00 for a pound while the hobby store stuff is $30.00 for 14 ounces so I get an extra 2 ozs for $4.00 less.Build a little box out of formcore board or plastic sheet and pour away.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I guess I must be one backwards SOB, cause all I do is squeeze some RTV-in-a-tube into a small container, smooth it out, use spit as a release agent, and press the part into place.
