This has been in the family for a while , I've had it about 12 years . It was my grandfathers , he served in North Africa and Italy . He worked in the Como section for the 85th Infantry Division 5th Army . He told me about assisting in capturing a German that was hiding in a basement . I think it is a German map case , it looks like the ones in the 1/35th kits . I just thought someone here can confirm it as original . So this case could have come from that encounter .

Carlton,
My expertise is Third Reich combat helmets but I am also exposed to a lot of other German militaria in the pursuit of my beloved combat helmets and I would say what you have there is a genuine WW II German map case. Congratulations.
