Gidday to any fellow kiwis
As you will see I am based in Auckland.
If you are interested in getting in contact or using this community forum let me know.
Just a brief note to say hello and let everyone know after months of viewing this site I have finally subscribed as a member.
The next step will be actually contributing to discussions etc I certainly feel humbled in the presence of some very experienced people who contribute to the forums etc. I will contribute when and how I can.
My interests are, like so many ,WW2 and in particular German armour, vehicles and soldiers all in 1/35th scale. That is my sole modelling interest at present apart from a collection of Chevrolet car models to also work through.
My present philosophy is to build straight out of the box concentrating on developing skills and techniques. The aim is to finish to the highest possible standards each time. The final aim is to get to the stage where my skills will match investing in multiple add ons and manhours etc to commence building the penultimate model of a chosen subject.
I am a member of the local AMPS club.
I have thus far learnt so much from watching and reading at this site. My work is slowly progressing however after seeing some fantastic work displayed here on this site I have a fair way to go before my work could be displayed for comment. I am confident more practice and hot tips from this site will see me on the right path.
Regards to all

Hi Andrew
It's great to hear from you.
I have noticed your numerous contributions over the many months that I have observed from the sidelines as it were.
One of the reasons I took the plunge and started contributing was seeing your contributions pop up now and again.
I am a little new to forums etc and would value your input into how we should utilize this portal.
If you like I can give you a bit more information about myself like background, modelling interests and philosphies to a view of establishing a connection and or friendship.
I imagine from that could flow information, support, tips etc. I also imagine the more we contribute in our forum the more we will get out of it.
I note you also live just down the road in Hamilton so distance wise we are relatively close so at best I hope I can assist you with what ever is happening in the Auckalnd scene or shops etc.
Perhaps our activities might encourage other Kiwis to contribute.
I don't mind getting the ball rolling and letting you know a bit more about myself and my modelling.
Look forward to you response
Warmest regards
Fordboy

I am glad to hear that I have helped in getting you to join up to this wonderful site.
that would be awesome. First off I will tell you a little about myself.
I am 17 years old and have been modelling since I was 14. I mainly build US WWII armour and vehicles and do a few figures now and then.
I would be grateful if you could help with shops as we only have one hobby shop in Hamilton which is over priced.
I kind of belong to the local modelling club but due to playing waterpolo and can't make meetings very often.
It will be good to have another kiwi to talk about the hobby in NZ.
P.S Do you use MSN messenger?

Hi Andrew
No I am sorry I don't use MSN Messenger however if you give me some instructions etc I will give it ago.
As regards model shops in Auckland there are a couple of good ones I visit :
1. Modelair in Greenlane Auckland run by Richard & Nicola Thompson
2. Ace Hobby Shop in Birkenhead on the North Shore run by Shin Kang
3. Hobby City on the Waterfront in Auckland City.
I am based on the North Shore and frequent both Modelair and Ace Hobby Shop. Both have a website if you want the links let me know. Because he is here on the North Shore I visit the Ace Hobby Shop the most.
I am in AMPS as is Shin. He is a great guy and a cool modeller he has some real good hardcore stuff in his shop as he is real miltary enthusiast himself its great. Good prices too.
A little about myself. As stated my primary focus is WW2 German stuff primarly the European Theatre. In saying that while I haven't got the kit I would dearly love to do the Tamiya GMC 6x 6. And there are some other US stuff I like. I ma partial to M113;s and Hummers as well plus some of the modern German stuff from Revell.
I enjoy tanks, trucks, support vehicles etc plus figures.
I am reasonably broadminded and respect all modellers efforts and interests
I am presently working on the Italerei Sturmtiger at present just out of the box. I am thus far very pleased with the build I have really been focussing on taking my time and concentrating on finishing.
I am determined to develop my skills to the highest level and whilst they have improved dramatically in a short period of time I have such a long way to go but thats part of the fun.
My AMPS club has some top notch hardcore modellers and I am really only the novice however they are fostering and encouraging me along which is great. They are all an inspiration to me.
I also do some cars limited to Chevrolets I have a small collection to work through.
I modelled hard out from age 7 to 14 years then I had a long break and got back into it in the last three years or so. I have finished an Academy Stug IV, Italerei Panthers x 2 and a Tamiya Panzer IVE since getting back into it.
With work and a young family its hard to get the time too model.
I am aged 40 years married with three young boys. My middle boy who is 5 just finished his first model the Airfix Tiger an oldy but a goody for him. I work as a computer consultant for a company based on the North Shore. I own my own house in Glenfield on the North Shore in Auckland. My other interests include computer games, computers, restoring and modifying cars Chevrolets and Holdens, gardening and of course military history.
I better go I think my boys are killing each other again.
Hear from you later.
Warmest regards

Sean,
The model we have here is mainly R/C oreinted but with a few Tamiya and DML kits but they are quite over priced.
I have bought a couple of times from Ace hobby's online store and am pleased with their service.
I am working on AFV clubs WC-51kit which is really nice. At the moment I am saving up to buy a couple of Italeri Sherman kits so i can do a kit bash.
I remember building and painting that airfix tiger kit back when I first started I think I still have it some where.
With MSN messenger just go here and follow instructions I think you can use another email address that is not a hotmail.com one. Hope it works

Do you have a Digital camera? It would cool if you do to post some pics of your sturmtiger.

Hi guys, good to see some more kiwis on the site apart from Andrew.
Welcome Fordboy, I hear ya with the lack of time to model with work and a young family, 2 kids, 2 & 4 but 4 yr old starts school in 2 weeks.
My modelling interests are much like you guys, WW2, mainly 1/35th german armour and vehicles. I also see Andrew and I joined the site on the same day lol.
Andrew have you tried http://www.trademe.co.nz/ for models. This may help for some cheaper kits and accessories.

Dear Neil
Great to hear from you especially a mainlander.
Christchurch is my favourite city in the South Island.
I spent nine years of my life in Timaru and that is where I developed an early interest in modelling.
I know from friends there are some awesome modellers in Christchurch.
It sound like we have similar interests vis a vis German WW2 stuff great to hear. Plus similar domestic challenges.
I really hope we hear from you again.

G'day all,
Couldn't help but notice the activity in here, so I thought I'd jump in, boots and everything...
I've been on Armorama for quite a while, but in a modelling hiatus for too many years - I came back to NZ with my lovely wife earlier this year and as soon as we find a more permanent home here in Auckland, I'll be breaking out the kits again.
I spent the last ten and some years living in the UK where I spent too much time buying modelling stuff and not enough time using it, so I shipped a fair stash of goodies back with me.
My main interests used to be German WW2 (armour, vehicles, figures, etc), but I've since developed an interest in the Vietnam conflict - hence my handle
As well as modelling, I have a pretty good collection of reference books and 1:1 scale artefacts and uniforms from the VN period (US, Aussie and kiwi plus a couple of NVA/NLF pieces).
I also used to be a member of the American Infantry Preservation Society , the UK's premier VN re-enactment and living history group
I'm really looking forward to getting my teeth into some good VN dioramas and models, but will *probably* do the odd WW2 Panzer just to keep my hand in - additional complication being my wife is German
so there are political issues to skirt ...
I used to be a member of the NZMSS and later the Auckland branch of IPMS - I think I'd like to get back on the club scene here once I'm up and building again.
Anyway, that's me done for now - it's good to see some activity on 'our' part of Armorama at last...

Hi Fordboy
Sunday the 19th sept ,11am-3pm is the next date at MOTAT.Your boys will be able to have a go at driving the tanks.
If the Tank Club were to be involved with one of your club evenings, here is what I would propose we could do.
I would invite our members to come along and bring all their tanks. We would give a talk about the tanks, using a "pass and review" style of presentation, answer questions etc.
Then we would set up a couple of tanks for all your members to have a try at the controls.
I promise it would be a fun night.
I did email Lance Whitford about this some time ago but I never got a reply.
Look forward to hearing from you.

hello all
Sure is alot of Kiwi's popping up now, surely a positive change.
Anyone with messenger can add me if you want :
[email protected]
1/35 scale German AFV's, Troops and Trucks is my game.
I sure understand the lack of time to do modelbuilding when you work and have kids but it is still very enjoyable and relaxing work (if everything goes right that is :-) )
I live in Taranaki for nearly 2 years now.
Before that I lived in Antwerp, Belgium until I turned 21 and left Antwerp for New Zealand.
Europe is a dream to grow up in if you love WW2 history, where I lived there were heaps of bunkers and fortresses and lots of vehicles standing as monuments.
I am also an active collector of original German WWII stuff although most of my collection is still in Antwerp, so I do hope to meet fellow collectors around here aswell.
If there are reenactors out there drop me a line aswell.
Nice meeting all of you guys !

Gidday Herr
Looks like you and I have similar interests.
I have the Opel Blitz next on my list to build.
How are you finding it?
Yes Europe must be surrounded by history both modern and ancient. Must be great to grow up around it huh!!
Warmest regards
