Or I should probably say "Viva la Francais" as my reason for posting this is to announce an initiative to start a version of Armorama in French. I have been asked several times whether it was intentionally left out of the mix, and the answer is no. The timing may be right for me now though to take on this project IF there are any volunteers to help with doing translations and building up content. I have already sent off a few emails to existing french language modeling site webmasters, and more requests will go out. My intent would be to create a small team of people to work on this as I think that might get the momentum built up a bit faster and more people on board (esspecially new members).

So...any feedback on this or volunteers?

Merci,
Jim

OK, I'm volunteering !
I don't have much time so I don't think I'll be writing my own articles.
Still, I could do a bit of translation ! The digital diamonds, for exemple, would be of great value to french modelers !

the same in french :
Je suis volontaire !
je n'ai pas trop le temps pour écrire mes propres articles, mais je pourrais bien faire un peu de traduction. par exemple, les "digital diamonds" seraient très intéressants pour les maquettistes français !

I will do a bit of the ground work to get this going. Very rudimentary stuff at first but once the translations are copied over from the English master files it should be good.

I haven't heard back from the two webmasters I wrote yet.

Good to see there is some interest for this. Even the community forum is doing well.

Pierre,
Do you have a version in French? That could be our first article for the new site.

I have got the basic domain and "some" translations in place. Since I have made so many changes to the main sections of the site the standard translation files do not come close though. You can preview the new site here:

fr.armorama.com

I will send out emails later for the people who want to help with doing translations.

Thanks,
Jim

If the rank images and number of levels are in-line with our other ranks it shouldn't be too hard to add them. The british ranks were a bit tough (enlisted) because they have so few actual levels.

Cheers,
Jim

Guys,
I haven't forgotten about this. I see that we have a pretty good group of core people here and that is what we would need to make this work.

I appriciate your patience though. It's definately on the list of things to-do.

If anyone wants to email me directly on this please do.

Thanks,
Jim

Pascal,
I had a lot of things going on recently that made it hard to work on the site. Hopefully my schedule will improve so that I can work on many of these types of projects.

For instance I am trying to finish up a document that will help new content editors with knowledge about how to add articles, images, etc. This will make it a lot easier to bring on new staff members (whether they are for the main site or an alternate language site).

I have to say that the level of discussions in the Community Forum for those in France is encouraging. So hopefully we will have enough support for this.

Who is still interesting in doing the needed changes to the translation files (the language files)? We can start with that at least.

Thanks,
Jim

Oh...and keep in mind that even I can't normally see this topic (being I am set as USA). So if you'd like please use my email to contact me about this.

Thanks,
