Plasticote T-235 high-build primer is just the greatest stuff in the whole wide world. It is particularly useful for imparting a 'cast'-looking texture to an item. It is relatively fast drying and stable as it gases out rather quickly. The image below is an IS-3 muzzle brake 'textured' with Plasticote primer. Hold the object at a fair distance(24 inches or so) from the spray bomb so that the spray hits the item almost dry. The texture will build up at a rate which you can quite easily control. Once an acceptable 'coarse' surface has been applied one final 'wet' coat will tone it all down and give a fantastic 'cast' appearance.

I had been without the stuff for a couple years, finally found a local source, bought all 6 cans on their shelf and ordered a case of 12. Plasticote is a staple of my model-building.

Cody, Looks great, and a lot cheaper than some other products, I bet you could get a lot of different effects by simply increasing and decressing the distance, and number of coats applied.

Dave,

Exactly so...this 1/16 Tiger 1 muzzle brake is treated a bit differently. While the IS-3 brake is quite heavily textured to simulate Russian castings the German Tiger 1 muzzle brake castings were considerably smoother. A few misted-on coats for texture followed by one wet coat created the effect I was after.
