I've given up on D-day 1/35th. If fell short of the amount needed because i need at least £500 for building materials and i need more landing craft. I worked for 1 year to earn the money to start of and now ive learned that It wasn't enough. Ive sold most of the stuff to my cousin and the rest im keeping.

Scott

I hate to see anyone give up on a project. I don't know what you had in mind, but by the title "D Day 1/35th" it sounds rather large. Was this to be a diorama of one of beaches? How about rather than give up on the project, scale down a bit. Show one landind craft, or one squad moving on the beach. This is just a thought, like I said I hate to see you on a project.

With a project that size I would figure it would take more that a year to build!! I myself am working on a XXX Corp Market Garden breakout with over 20 vehicles and many dozens of troops. It has taken me nearly 10 years to slowly find/buy the vehicles and build them. I haven't even started the actual diorama yet and 75% of the troops are still in the box!!!

My point is you don't have to have all the materials before you begin. You can always add details along the way, look for bargains, etc.

Ciao A-train,
Why don't you try going with 1/72nd instead? Just an idea.
Ciao for now

Sounds like a good idea. I find 1/72nd to small.

I'm sure if you scale you plans down, as shermie and others suggest, you'll be able to do a bang up job on a smalller project, at a much more realistic cost.

As much as I would like to build the ever breathtaking, eveybody's talking about dio, reality says, I live in a small 3 room apartment, and where would I put it when I was done.
So I just build small pieces, in 1/35.

Ciao A-train,
You know, maybe you could build it in a modular fashion. Maybe a tank, and then an LCM, and then other sections of the beach that could all interlock and build into one big dio. Just an idea
Ciao for now

Do what we did here a couple of years ago in Texas. It won the Dio of the year at the National IPMS contest. About 17 guys got together and built a Invasion of Holland diorama. There had to be 30-40 vehicles and over 100 figures as well as houses and of course ground work. It was built onto one of those 5 foot by eight foot tables.

I don't feel so bad having worked one one for over 11 years. It has over forty figures, and three scenes. It was too ambitious for someone at my skill level to build. I learned my lesson. you can see it partially finished in my "Super-Tree or Super-Nuts" article.
