Hi folk. Sorry I have been a bit lax lately with both my modeling and posting so here is some pics of progress on the cab. The mudguards were bent by rolling 30 thou card round an empty humbrol paint tin and then wiring it in place. It was then put in a pot of 'just' off the boil water which was then left to cool.

The inner guard panel was done in a similar way but was placed between two spoons as I needed a half egg shape. Once it was cool it was then cut in half and 'walla' two egg shaped inner guard panels.

Floor is just sitting in place. The guards were left longer then required and CA glued to a couple of brass strips to keep them in place. The balsa jig holds the shape right while other stiffing parts are attached.

Thanks for looking any and all comments or citizism welcomed.

this is the inner guard panel still to be fitted.

sorry about the quality of some of the pics

all were scaled from pictures and it helped that I also had access to a few of these trucks to take detail photos and the main measurements. When I take the photos myself I try to include in the picture a 50mm X 50mm white plastic square. This aids in scaling off the pictures at a later date.

Thanks for your comments I hope my explaination helps.

Looking at these 'in progress' pics, I think I'll stick to Italeri 13cab Chevys and Tamiya Ford conversions - I have enough trouble getting straight body parts to line up!
for Cliff - excellent work

Are we going round in a circle here? Roo wants to be as good as the rest of us, and the rest of us want to be as good as Roo!! LOL.

Dave I am a good builder but when it comes to painting and weathering I think (Know) that most of you people are streets ahead of me in this area.

Perhaps I can build them and We Will Hold or some other expert painter can finish them for me. :-)

Cause the way I look at it is that the finishing can make or break a model.

I think we'll just call it quits here!.
I look at some of the details on my models, such as tie-downs etc, and then at other people's work, and think that I'll never get them right. I guess we are never happy with our own work.

Howdy Guys,

What!!!......nobody says anything about the 'spoons'!?! You have to be kiddin' me That is a superb idea 'Roo!....I mean it. Creating a compound curve utilizing two 'sandwiched' spoons is Brill!
But, just so you know...I'm both stealing the idea, and enlarging upon it.

Once again, I am getting to stroll through a 'candy store' when I read your posts "Roo. Not only am I impressed with what I see, but it energizes me with just the right amount of selfconfidence to maybe try this myself.
You da man!

Tread.

One word "Amazing".

I'd probably even goof up the boiling water part :-)

Cliff, beautiful work as usual. Your in progress pics on these builds, plus your generous sharing of techniques makes every one of your posts a learning experience!

Fit is really concise, uniform curvature is top shelf---Amazing.

ps: Is "walla" some kind of Aussie animal??? hehehehehe

Talent is one thing, having the imagination to use to spoons to get a compound curve is another level alltogether. Great start Roo. Keep them coming!
