Can anyone tell me where the best place to get MIG powders/pigments?

How do these compare to pastels found in arts/crafts stores?

Got some from Mission Models (fast service and nice people) but I haven't experimented with them yet to compare them to some weathering powders that I had.

My suggestion would be to try a few (like I am doing) they sold my wife what they said were the 3 most popular colors so I could have some to try (Birthday gift). 6 bucks US each I think they were and fast service.

Did you try to pay a visit to your local Arts craft store? You can find them there really for a fraction of the price you pay for the Mig ones...

Thanks for all the leads guys. I really appreciate it. I think I'll try R&J or the Hobbyland in Columbus, Ohio first, since it's only two hours away from me...been there once, but just to "window shop"...if you can believe that.....

Can't wait to see the Sherman Tazz!

Fabio: under what name brands do they show up in the craft store? The local hobby shops here have nothing but we do have a "Micheals" which is a large craft store chain, and they may have what you're talking about

thanks

Darryl? In my honest opinion, Mig pigements are in no way superior to ordinary pastels. Chalk pastels that is. They work out a lot more expensive to use, and there is just as wide a range of colours, if not more, with the pastels. As i see it the only advantage they (Mig) have is ease of use. I have 3 of their range and although they have proved useful, when they run out I'll be using chalk pastels again.

I found a site where you can get some and it also has a few other things like resin kits and such. It also have a chart for making differant weathering things like winter rust, summer rust, smoke and so on. It also tells you what colors u need the mixture % and how difficult I thought some of you to look at.

I have been blown away by how many of the big boys don'e carry these. Pigments have been one of the hotest new things for a while now, but squadron, great models, and many more of the most popular online hobby shops don't carry them. I can't figure out why.

I pick mine up at an Artist Supply Store... Pearl Paints.
Gambin, and Sennelier, are the two brands they carry.
The 4 ounce bottles run about 8 dollars each, these days.
I use :
Raw Umber, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, and Black, just the basic earth tones. Mix for the colors you want.
