During the battle of Hue in 1968 (Tet Offensive),Vietnam. There were some Vietnamese Marines units who fought side by side with the US Marines Corps, they were supplied with the US C-rations. The C-rations at this time came in a case inside a cardboard sleeve containing 12 meals. Each meal was in it's own cardboard box, which contained the individual items sealed in cans. A can opener (called both a "John Wayne" or a "P-38") was needed to open the cans. The accessory pack with each meal was sealed in a foil pouch.

A VNMC (Vietnam Marines Corps) soldier opened a can of "Ham And Lima Beans" (B-2 Unit), he saw the first letter on the can was a H, as in vietnamese, H means HEO (Pork). It was OK.

An other VNMC with a can of "Beef, Spiced With Sauce" (B-3 Unit), the first letter was a B, as in vietnamese, B means BO (Beef), when he opened the can, it was OK.

The third VNMC took a can of "Chicken And Noodles" (B-1A Unit), the first letter was a C, as in vietnamese, C means CHO (Dog). Astonished, wide opened eyes, he asked the others VNMC :

- "The USMC eat dog, aren't they?"
