Anyone remember those old "welding" models they had probably about 25-30 years ago? I remember my first was the Patton tank, I think there were only 3 at the time or so (if that many) and it came with a little 'welding gun' that just spun plastic sticks and the friction would cause it to 'weld' the pieces together. The name eludes me now but I was wondering if anyone else had ever seen one of these models, done one etc. They were fun for a kid to do but in todays day and age they'd probably be liable for a lawsuit. lol

I'd like to see some pics, too. 25-30 years ago I had no idea what a model means, at that period I was interested after some funny toys and mom's cookies

I remember these kits. IIRC, they were made by Monogram when that company was owned by Mattel. The kits that were welded eventually turned up as part of Monogram's snap-tite line. Kits like the 1/48 scale Tiger tank and M48A2 Patton tank were the only armor ones I remember.

I did a quick search on eBay and found out they were called Spinwelders. There is a Curtiss Biplane listed as well as a set of the plastic spin rods. Auction lists the item as circa 1974, 30 years ago.

I had the yellow dragster. You had to "weld" the frame together IIRC.

Wow, I am old...

SPINWELDERS! That's the name! Damn, I couldn't remember the name to save my life, been so long since I had my last one (about 30 years). Seeing that biplane box was pretty cool, kind of tempted to get it. lol

These must have been a short lived phenomenon. I was back in the hobby in the summer of '75 and at a Kay-Bee Toy (and Hobby, at the time) in 76 and there was no sign of these.

I believe they were a short lived deal, I was a youngin' at the time so I couldn't honestly remember for how long these were around but I do remember them being around for short while and then vanishing. I thought they were cool though as a kid, interesting idea.
