wouldn't it be so much better if manufacturers started making masks instead of decals for their kits? It would be so much easier to do and I would really get that painted on look. would it be cheaper to make masks that to make decals? (hint, hint)

G'day Dragon
are masks also known as stencils?
if these are what your talking about i think for some thinks such as the wording of UNITED STATES ARMY and things, it looks way better when painted on, as i have tried it a few times, but for little thigns such as insignia etc... you cant go wrong with decals.
cheers

no, thats not what I meant, what I mean is like stickers that you can use to mask an area for painting it with an airbrush, like premade insignias, I believe there are aftermarket ones but it would be better if they were included in the kit. Are this the stencils? if they are then great!!

I believe that the model companies operate on the assumption the builder does not have an airbrush. I have tried a few masks using a brush and it's just not the same

I'm a brush painter - decals every time for me.

It would be nice but.....I guess the kit companies will never go that far ..We'll just have to pick them up in the aftermarket piles ...I agree that once you use them you will never go back to decals as long as you can but somethings just can,t be done or would take forever to do with masks ...I have some masks for my dragon wagon the pin-up is made up of about 4 different masks....hmmm...I'll pass on that one . :-) Stars and numbers are great though ...with these and dry transfers.... decals have got the way of the dinosaurs ,or at least as often as possible. Not everyone might feel as comfy with them though.

That's right, I never thought about you brush painters, I imagined that it would be inpossible to do such things as the painting of that B-25 called "The Dragon and Its Tail" but the regular stars and numbers would be nice.
