i went to my hobby shop and saw something that caught my eye...''marking softener''..whats that?

Do you mean "Mr. Mark softer" by Gunze Sangyo? If so, it is a decal softener that will soften decals so they will conform to the surface of the model. If that is not what you mean then sorry I don't know.
