Hi Folk. this is my scratch built 1/35 scale early wooden deck for my CMP 12 cab 'move it' campaign entry.

I still have to put the tailgate catches and tarp/cargo tiedown hooks on. All of this deck is scratchbuilt out of plastic card and brass sheet and wire except for the use of Grandt line rivit heads and nuts, even the tailgate hinges are scratch built from brass strip and they do work.

I intend on having a canvas tarp with rolled up sides and ends so the interior can be seen.

All comments Welcome

Every time I think you can't make it look better, you go and prove me wrong. I am very glad that you have decided to display this piece with the tarp rolled up. It would be a shame to hide all your hard work. You never cease to amaze me Mate. Thanks again for sharing. Can't wait to see it finished. It is going to look great next to the others in the Roo Motor Pool.

I'm really gonna have to try a wooden bed for one of my trucks, all mine have been steel beds (mainly because I have the drawings and they're easier to build!). Great detail, you obviously have much more patience than I do.

Damn, Roo!
I can't believe how quick some of you guys whip up these awesome scratchbuilds! We've got "power lunches", "power walks", etc. You and Animal ought to get together and host a class on "power modeling"! I swear, I'm having so much fun w/ my SB Guntruck, but, work and family and chores make it such a long process that the pace and talent of modelers with more free time blows me away.
Keep up the inspirational photos and updates, this one will be COOL, we can already tell!

Thank you for the kind words guys. Yes this one has been testing my patience. So much so that I have only spent a couple of hours at a time on it and in fact recently had a whole 10days without doing any modeling at all. But I did do some more research for the next LOT (lol ) of trucks to be done.

regards
Cliff

I have to agree with Dave. This scratch work is just stunning. What can I say that the photo's don't already display---just great work here.

You continue to deliver authenitic scale reproductions that are second to none. Not to throw schmooze, but in my book you are one of the best around. Congrats on this build --- keep us posted.

ps: Do you use some sort of jig or template to maintain the uniform bends on your brass rod work i.e. the rod that would hold the canvas over the bed?

Steve I use a pair of pliers I purchased that have round tapering jaws. I then measure and mark the brass strip and put it in the plier jaws in the same place all the time. I then use my sprue cutters (which are in fact model railroad track cutters) and snip the ends to match if need be.

I did use a jig to bend the hood bow wire though!

I, in fact, was so impressed with this deck and felt it put the rest of the cab chassis to shame so last night I stripped the chassis down and have started again. My intention with this one is that I am going to scratch build it from the ground up, making two of everything so that it can be molded for a resin company here in Australia that I am now making masters for.

Also on that note this company has also purchased all the molds and masters I had already made up and will be releasing them a little later in the year.

Thanks for your kind comments as it gives me the will to carry on

Man, if that was the chassis we saw in a previous post, it'll be damned hard to improve on it!
Seriously, well done Cliff, to see your work being chosen to be masters, and to know that others will be making kits based on your work, must be a nice feeling. And a well deserved accolade.

Dave it is nice as I can concentrate on just building models. The other nice thing is I am a free agent in that I do masters of what I want rather then be restricted to what others want me to do. So be prepared for a lot of commonwealth (especially Australian ) stuff in the next 2 years.

the chassis you are talking about is the ford 6X4 wrecker I think and so that is not under reconstruction.

thanks
Cliff
