Hi Folk. I had a problem with a new kit bash/ scratch build I started as none of my spares box parts came any where near what I wanted. So I built it from pictures and diagrams. Scale is 1/35 and it is not quite finished yet as I still have to do two torsion bars and the caps to complete the axle brackets. It is for a 6X4 with a rear lazy axle.

All comments welcome

OK I give in I am doing (at the moment) the cab and chassis for this beastie

I have started this one because the story of my life at the moment is that I have to wait for some supplies (again) so I can finish the others I have started.

The base kit is a few bits out of the Tamiya Quad and the rest will be scratch built.

thanks again all comments welcomed

That's one of the best things with modelling CMPs, you could make 'em for the next 20 years and not run out of subjects! and this one's a wrecker as well.
Looks good Cliff, Look forward to seeing it finished.

I have a question for you guys. I had a lot of trouble / fun doing the torsion bars (they are the brass rod with round plastic each end)

I built mine by using a small drill to put a fixing hole through the centre of the rod and then started a hole the same size as the brass rod to get a 'platform' for CA glueing the two together.

Does anyone have a simpiler way of doing this?

thanks

hehe... you seem to have fun there ! Looking good, so far.
That looks like an interesting model to try your hand at scratchbuilding : many straight panels. Styling those fenders may make you sweat, though...
I think I'd make an original from thick lead foil and make a resin copy of it. I don't like using lead parts in my builds : they don't hold shape and they don't paint well... Easy to work with though.

I am lucky in the fact that the Tamiya Quad kit has the fenders and most of the cab front. I just have to alter the bonnet (hood) and grill shape.

Cliff it is getting impossible to keep up with all the neat builds you got going. How many does this make?

Cliff, unfortunately, that's pretty much the same approach I use too in this area. It can get "tedious" sometimes...

You do a fine job, the assembly looks nice and clean!

Thanks Gunnie I appreciate your comments on my work. I thought about it for a while and realised that may be the only way to do the torsion bars.

I don't know Cliff what about the plastic part being like washers, and at the end of the brass rod drill a tiny hole to put a pin in thru the washer, then the rod, then the other washer on the other side, and if you want it to look solid take a little putty and put between the washers.
Heck with the CA you might not even need the pin. Shoot sounds good enough for the girls I go with. Tell me what you think

Best regards Kerry
