Here in my country, Matt coats are quite easy to find but are relatively expensive. So I thought, if I would mix Tamiya Flat base with Tamiya Clear or Future, could I make a decent Matt coat? If Yes, what mixing ratio would be appropriate to produce a really flat finish.
Thanks.

I have never tried it, but have read that others
do the same, mixing flat base with future.
I have never read about a mixing ratio,
I guess you just need to experiment until you find the right mix.

There was an article in a FSM magazine a couple of months ago (March 2004 I think) explaining all the uses for Future. And this was one of the topics and also mixing ratios for Tamiya Flat base and Future:
1 part Flat Base to 3 parts Future = Dead Flat
1 part Flat Base to 10 parts Future = Flat
1 part Flat Base to 15 parts Future = Satin
I tried it on my last kits and it works pretty good...I just didn't have quite enough flat base in mine so it still left a bit of sheen to it. Take a look at my gallery and you can see on my T-62 turret, CF-117A, and Klingon Cruiser.....just not quite enough flat base in it!!!

I've tried mixing the Tamiya flat base with Tamiya X22 I think it is, but just couldn't get it 'flat' enough without it turning white in places. I'll think I'll stick to Humbrol!

Good choice Fritz, I too am using Humbrol at certain areas.
