hi all im a rookie modeler and i meen ROOKIE!!
anyways i have expirance with building warhammer and a few snap together models and a few easy planes that a baby could assemble, anyway to the point i was wondering if anyone could tell me what the best first tank would be to make.

(UPDATE!!!!) i went to the hobby store about 35 seconds drive from me
i went and bought a 1/35 scale TAMIYA Panzerkamphwagen IV ausf.J

the model cost me $79.95 AUD wich converts into 58.60 USD, 49.17 EUR , or 32.70 GBP

is this a decent price??? or is it over priced? i dont care i can afford it but i just want to know cuz every dollar counts, yep even when ur driving a lamborghini!

scuse the bragging!

I'd go with a 1/6 TIGER with photo etched and resin parts, nice beginers kit

lol, just kidding, any 1/72 scale tank is a great place to start, nice and small, so you can work your way up, also many many varietys of tanks! good luck!

Hi Mr. Rommel
For a nice easy kit, try tamiya´s Panzer II ausf F/G.
Its cheap, no fit problems, easy to put together, widely available and looks like a panzer II.
If its not available in your local hobby shop, ask the guy behind the counter for some advise. No need to spend top dollar.
1/72 are OK but a lot of the detail is very small. The above would be perfect!

Also welcome to armorama. Hope you enjoy your visits!

G'day Erwin,
I've only just started on armour myself. I've gone for a 1/35 Tamiya Tiger I Late Version. I love the Tiger and have always wanted to build one. I personally find 1/72 too small for my skill level. There is plenty of good advice on this forum, so good luck and enjoy it.
Cheers
Ad.

Try out Tamiya's Panzerkampfwagen II. It's small simple and small enough to begin with. Plus you would really like to have those five figures around that tank once it's done.

Hello Erwinrommel, first of all you should know about what you can handle and not. If you go to your LHS then they can guide you to the different skill levels which most models have on the box, but even some of them are misleading, I had one that said age 10 and up, and I know I would of never been able to handle that as a kid.
Now the one good thing is, if you have any problem you can't figure out, just ask, one of us here will be more then willing to help you the best we can.
Remember, no question is silly, the only time it is silly is when you don't ask, and ruin your model. This is what we do here, is ask questions and tell answers back and forth, even the best modelers will ask questions at times.
Build what is in your heart, that way it will be a lot more fun building.

Yes, I am building the Panzer II as my pretty much second model, it is just pure fun. No problems at all. My first was the Tamiya Panzer IV Ausf D, and that had a very few frustrations over a few parts not fitting. Either one would be a good entry into modelling

I did start with 1/72, the kits are cheap, they are easy to build, and they feel like putting figures together. just try one, if you mess it up like i did, it was only $5!! good luck

I may be biased but Shermans are good beginners. Not too complicated and easy to paint Olive Drab. Plenty of references.

Although not necessary, German armor may need zimmerit and multiple colors for camouflage.
