G/day everyone new to the Forums, I'm starting my first build and was cutting parts off sprue, sanded the burr off the edge and it the coating off
Options 1 Put back in box and shelf it
2 Touch up with paint
3 Remove plating and paint

1 is not really an option when I've just started this hobby
2 It won't look right
3 It's a disc brake so the caliper is chrome as well so if I remove plating I can detail the caliper.
Whats the easiest way to do this. Sand it ??

Last time I needed to remove chrome (a Revell DTM car), I dunked the parts in a tub of household bleach. When I looked at it a few seconds later it had mostly all come off, so a few seconds rinsing under the tap with an old toothbrush and it was ready for respraying.

You don’t need much bleach and to be honest, you could probably just brush it on but it certainly worked.

OR

Buy a MOLOTOW Liquid Chrome marker...excellent for touch ups on
chrome parts...they are great!

NOTE: DO NOT BUFF or you will remove the shine.

There are paints out there that simulate "chrome" better than the plating they use now.

Went with the oven cleaner, worked a treat, only problem
was I asked the wife "Have we got any oven cleaner"
The rest is history as they say.
45 minutes to clean the oven
2 minutes to strip the parts.

The oven cleaner is the only cleaner to give the wife's skin a bad reaction, so in 32 years of marriage it's always been my job to clean the oven. Should have gone with the bleach. !!

The oven cleaner also works well as a paint stripper !!
Painted a part and the finish wasn't to good, brush marks, time to purchase an airbrush.

Glad it worked, for a less toxic option I prefer a overnight soak in a bath of Simple Green.
