Right, which UK members watched the Achilles restoration by the Salvage Squad (Channel 4)?

Basically, an M10 Achilles owned by Rex Cadman of the War and Peace Show, was restored, to full running order, by Channels 4’s Salvage Squad with help from Steve Cobb in just 4 months.

Missed it well then check out these links:

Supposedly this is the only running Achilles in the World.

THANKS TIVO

That is great. Sure wish they'd show stuff like that over on this side of the pond. BTW, that 3rd link isn't working, at least not right now, and on that 4th link they list some reference books, including one by "Steve Saloga."

Hi Savage
I watched the program and found it very interesting, unfortunately I can't get a good picture on C4 here so didn't record it . I think I might just contact C4 and see if these shows go to video.

Hi Rodger

The link is OK, the site seems a bit unstable (or over-worked?), I also noticed the 'Saloga' error, the link to Amazon sorts that out.

Hopefully C4 will see this as advertising and thus not sue me. The program was worth watching just for these images:

Sherman Firefly being launched and on the Normandy beach with wading kit on

M8 HMC on a Normandy beach with wading kit on

Drawing of M10 deep wading kit

M4A1 (Early) on a Normandy beach with wading kit on

And the restored Achilles with wading kit on

I originally got interested in this show when they restored a Centurion AVRE with 165mm and ERA http://www.channel4.com/science/microsites/S/salvage_squad_2002/vehicles/tank/index.html and a Stolly (Alvis Stalwart High Mobility Load Carrier) http://www.channel4.com/science/microsites/S/salvage_squad_2002/vehicles/stolly/index.html. When they do military (or any restoration for that matter) it is fascinating to watch.

hopefully they'll put that one on the Discovery Channel over here or get rid of that dysfuntional motorcycle building family show.
