HI guys,

This is my first time to make a diorama and maybe you guys could give me more inputs for improvements, corrections, etc. There is no groundwork yet, I'm just in the experiment stage

Thanks

Hi there Warthog. Maybe if you tell us what diorama you are planning to build we could help you out.

My idea/plan is to show a ruined farm house (somewhere in Italy ) with a panther beside it waiting in ambush. I plan to add another damaged wall where the panther can hide. I still have to make the the damaged roof...

I used styrofoam with wall putty

Hmmm.... so.... a WWII Euro theater... do you have an overhead sketch? You said a farm house, perhaps a dead or living livestock could atleast be placed near the tank. You can also put the tank inside the house, provided that there is an opening on it.

This is the overhead view I could come up with in a short notice...

only the tank and the house is built the damaged fence is still a figment of imagination. I'm still not sure if I'm going to make a damaged archway.

Ginve it a go! The inside of the farm should be with some wheat and burnt items (such as blown up walls). Add some debris on those sides. I could not think more right now. But as you progress, I'll do what I can

Shonen: Sorry, my mistake...I should have indicated that it is a house in the italian countryside (not a farm house as mentioned in my initial post). I updated the image above. Livestock...hmmm...can you tell me where I can get a scale livestock...I don't recall seeing them in some model shops. Thanks

Tamiya does have one in 1/35.

:-) :-) :-) :-)

No seriously, these are good.

Also in 1/35

Also, you can buy figures mounted on horses. You just have to remove the mounted person. Or you could buy those animals in the market wherein they are in packs with a stand and costs roughtly 100 or less just like those toy soldiers mounted on a base.

Ooops, there is a slight change in plan. Since I saw the Raptor figs shown by Shonnen, my plan now it create a dio where the German Panther is hiding beside the runined house waiting to ambush a company of American velociraptors... :-) :-) :-) :-)

Seriously, I try look for those Tamiya figs. I hope they have on in Lils Makati.

Buck: Thanks, I'll try to post the updated pics once I have them.

Seriously, I mean that's a good idea warthog. Have the panther sit beside the house maybe covered with some hay for camouflage. If you have seen Band of Brothers there was one episode there when the 101st was in Holland where they were ambushed by the germans with a tank besides a house.

I think wala noon sa Lil's Makati. Kakagaling ko lang last week. Try checking Lil's Megamall or STC in Filinvest. They have loads of figs and maybe Dragon has those set of livestocks too.

BTW, you can just buy cheap ole plastic farm animals that sometimes come with little green plastic soldiers.

Yep, dami ngang ideas, kulang na lang sa works. Hehehe. As for the roof, wala pa akong idea for the moment. But it looks great. I'll do some research on the roof they used that time.

Take a look at these houses:

Italian Villa 1850-1870

Italianate (mid-1860's -1880's)

These should give you some idea.

Shonen: Wow...that is really a big help. , now I have more reference...especially the italian villa. I could probably build one like it...hmmm...it would probably take me months to do one...and my wife might be angry, baka magpagawa ng life size...

Maraming maraming salamat

After several days of research and internet (non productive in office due to modeling) posting I finally modified the house I'm going to use in a dio....

I still have to put the beams on top of the trusses (purlins)...was not able to glue them to sleepy.

Shonen: Here is how I built the walls...
Materials:
1) 1/2" styrofoam from NBS
2) Wall putty (Bostik, RJ, Bosny), available in Ace and True Value for P69.
3) Hobby knife and ruler
4) Glue - I used Liquid Nails, but you could also use the wall putty
5) Putty Knife - I used the a plastic thing used by painters, they can be bought in NBS, colored white -- I think they use it for oil painting or applying gesso...

Steps:
1) Cut the styro according to your desired design or plan
2) Sand the styro, but not necessary
3) Apply the wall putty to both sides of the styro (one side at a time) -- it would be best to apply at least two coats -- but I do 3 coats.
4) Before the putty hardens, scribe your desired design such as bricks, cinder blocks or stonewalls.
5) Once the wall is dry (it its cold then it is still wet) re-define the design
6) lightly sand it
7) Finished

If you have other questions or clarifications just post it again....hope this helps

PS

The 0.5" thickness is adequate for stonewalls, according to one source said walls normally range from 40 - 60 cm and in extreme cases 80cm - 100cm. If the wall thickness is between 40cm - 60cm then the 1:35 scaled version would be 1.14 cm and 1.71cm respectively. A 0.5" (1.27 cm) then the thickness will still be within the range of thickness.

You could probably use foamcore or mattboard (saw one in SM South workshop near the art supplies) its quite big and costs P199. I'll also try it sometime...
