I have had problems with acrylic paint flaking off vac canopies as well as molded. Getting ready to paint vac turrets and really would like the paint to stay put. Anyone have any advise on this? Would appreciate any thing ........

Have you tried using a non-acrylic flat paint As a primer (such as Tamiya) in the same shade as the acrylic paint?

Considered it.....just want the base to adhere to the surface. I'll try it on a scrap piece.....thanks !!

I do a lot of scratch building, including Vac-Forming. I usually paint with Tamiya or Mr. Hobby Colors, which are acrylic lacquers or I use Testors enamels. When m using Acylic colors of any type, I usually try to use a non-acrylic primer as a base, especially for canopies. It works well, but you need the same shade as the Acrylic paint, or it will show through the canopy as the wrong color underneath. That’s not so bad if you use Flat Back, but any other color (except the correct shade) looks strange.

Dip your canopies in FUTURE before you mask, and let dry for at least
24 hours then mask...the paint will stick better.

or another method:

once you have masked the canopy(so it is protected) lightly sand the
ribs with extremely fine sand paper...the paint will stick better.

Note: Most aircraft that I have seen, the interior ribs of the canopy
is the same color as the aircraft interior. To achieve this effect, you
paint the outside of the canopy appropriate interior color and then
overcoat with the appropriate exterior color. This will create a very
convincing two color effect.
