I am NOT going back to the bench today..
I spent part of the morning looking high and low in the SEVEN possible places I COULD have left the 1/35th Hind Interior stencils I am SURE I've already bought..
no luck..
They aren't in the WIP 1/35 Hind box, in the unstarted SECOND kit, arent with the 1/72 Hind decals, aren't in with the envelope from the last Linden Hill order, not in with the 1/72 Hind WIP's OR in with the UNstarted 1/72 kits.. or with the giant folder of Hind references.. no place..
BUT
I DID find the @#$!#$#&% copy of the IDF M113 book I just ordered from Sprue Brothers and have been Slooowlllllyyyy tracking across the country.
That book that I had ALSO gone looking for BEFORE I ordered...
I am sooo not going to the bench tonight. I'll put out an eye or burn the place down or something..
One of those days...

Let he is without sin Mike....
I have lost the clear sprue with the searchlight lens for my A9 tank. It can only possibly be in one room... or has been thrown out by mistake. Searching for it, I found a RB Model barrel set for the Char B1 Bis - which I have already built …. with a RB barrel set...
Then recently I went looking for the 90 mm barrel for a Jagdpanzer Kanone I intended to build - couldn't find it anywhere. Researched my online purchase history for the last few years, only to find it in an order I didn't proceed with!
I blame Gremlins..
Deep breaths and then get back on the horse Mike.

I was tempted to contact Linden Hill and ask if they have a record of my having ordered a set.. it's not like I haven't ordered enough stuff from them to be shipped to Vt that they WON'T recognize me..
I'm STILL resisting the urge to just buy another set.
You are right, I am probably going to re-box the big Hind and play with something smaller and simpler for a while.

Mike, once I had an opened box model out, doing some work and had misplaced the decal sheet. Looked high and low, hither and yon, under everything I could think of but to no avail. Sometime later I went to shelve the kit for a time, and when I pulled the bottom section of the box out of the upper section of the box... low and behold! The decal sheet had slipped between the two box sections... maybe check the box lid?

I've had 3 parts "ping" into the vortex above my workbench and disappear this week. one I made from spare plastic but the other 2 will just not be on the finished model. PS I do not have a carpet just bare concrete flooor that once swept turn up the dropped parts, but not in this case

Dave, Thanks, that was one of the firsst tings I checked, but since I have a spare table with the top and bottom of the box seperately holding parts, no luck. It's a 2/3 size sheet of decals in a zip lock baggie.
They would be tough to miss.
Steve, pants cuffs or inside shoe/slipper? I've found a couple of parts I had SWORN I heard hit the floor tucked into the cuff or my pants or inside the tongue of a shoe.
Even building with an old t-shirt across my lap does not always work.
I feel your pain.

I suggest the stencils will be located with the missing 10mm socket, the 1/4 W spanner and the piston circlip that managed to escape from my engine rebuild!

Or with the missing sock from the dryer!

Many years ago I lost the front seat from Tamiyas Sd.Kfz. 7. Searched for a few hours until I gave up and copied the seat from another box, nothing complicated. When I had painted it I continued with airbrushing the rest of the halftrack in panzer grey. Air inlet filter on the compressor was clogged by dust so I had to pull it forward and promply found the missing seat hiding behind the compressor so now I have a spare Sd.Kfz. 7 seat ...
Lost side cutter once, searched for hours and then gave up and bought a new one. Four weeks later I found it where I had put it the last time I used it. Hanging, handles downward, from the rods holding up my worklight. It was literally 5 inches from my face every evening I sat there building .....

We all suffer in silence mostly, but none of us are immune to the carpet monster, or the little gremlins who like to hide things on us.
You are NOT alone Robbie!

This posting is deja ‘vu for another posting here recently. In that one, I mentioned the hand wheel from a Tamiya Sturmtiger that pinged away from my garage workbench a few years back. I used every method in the book to look for it, as I knew I heard it hit the concrete garage floor. I used the flashlight on the floor method, the nylon stocking over the vacuum hose method, etc. I never found the part, and eventually succumbed to scratch-building it. Since I park my SUV in the garage, and do a lot of woodworking in the same area, I frequently blow out the area with a leaf blower, and I’m constantly sweeping it out, and driving my SUV over the area every day. Imagine my surprise about six months later when I’m cleaning out my garage and I look down to see this tiny part sitting there, right in the middle of the concrete garage floor. I maintain there’s a worm hole over my workbench (really—all modeling workbenches) filled with pixies or fairies or whatever, who steal and return these parts at will, just to make life miserable— regardless of carpeting, concrete or whatever.

Shortly after I moved into my house many years ago, I painted and sealed the garage floor. There was a choice of red or grey. Guess which one I plumped for? Yes, that's right, the one that's exactly the same shade as Dragon and Takom's plastic!

Easy: The first thing to do when you open a new kit is to airbrush a thin layer of red primer over every sprue, except any clear sprues of course

That won’t work either. It’ll just make it easier for he pixies, fairies and leprechauns to see and catch them as they pass through the wormhole. When they return them a year or two later, they’ll have removed the paint.
