Hi guys,

Over the last few nights I've been watching " Band of Brothers" on the History Channel. For those who may not have not heard of it, this is the story of Easy Co, 101st Airborne during the second world war.
This show is really worth checking out. The action scenes make one feel like they are right there. This is not your normal Hollywood war movies where they paint a cross on an old American tank and try to pass it off as German. So far I've seen American and British Shermans, a German Panther, and several Germen SP guns.
A great deal of research has been done on everything from uniforms, battlegrounds, to equipment. Guys if you are looking for ideas for your next project check out this show.

I have seen the series twice, and it rocks!, its much more realistic and with a better "feel" than Saving Private Ryan.

That Panther - and the tiger later on, is rebuilt T34 and 55´s.

I have some pics somewhere ....

If thats a rebuilt T-34 someone somewhere is doing some real fine work. They even have zimmerits on it. This series is a classic in so many ways. Its out on DVD I may just have to pick it up. Davinator, sorry about that. I think tonights is the Battle of the Bulge. I think I missed the previews.

if you get the dvd box set it includes a documantary that shows how they made the vehicles, the tigers are T34/85s fitted with steel bodies, the jagdpanther is a T55 and the stugs are made from a heavily modified british FV432 APC, with a extra roadwheel added, and the engine relocated to the rear.

the marder 3s appear genuine, and the shermans are in fact canadian grizzlies, hence the dry pin tracks and sprockets.

the cromwells are actually early centaurs or possibly late A24 cavaliers,
the exhaust housings betray their true identities. a cromwells exhaust housing was flush with the engine deck, but the earlier tanks had the rear half of it angled down. the tanks in the series also have exhausts coming from the back of this housing, where the smoke candle holder boxes would be on a cromwell. the muzzle brakes also appear oversized.

however, to get such realistic looking vehicles assembled for something like BOB 60+ years since they were built is pretty fantastic!

cheers

joe (cromwell nut!)

I applaud the effort to give the appearance of realistic German armor. It probably would have been easier and cheaper to have the German style M48/M60s and US halftracks with German crosses.
