Guys & Dolls;
What can I use without buying 20 yrs. worth of future so my decals won't glaze?

Any decent glosscoat should do the same job. I use Windsor & Newton acrylic varnishes - gloss under the decals and matt (flat to you guys) over the top of them. £4.00 a bottle in the UK, and that'll last about 6 months, and I get through a lot of models.!

I LOVE my lifetime supply of Future, but Testors GlossCote is a good product as well.

Does glosscote also serve the same purpose as future, when doing washes?

Yep. All the 'Future' or glosscoat does in this case is to form a barrier to stop the wash from attacking the basecoat. Must admit that I don't use any barrier here, I use enamel/oil paints for the wash and acrylics for the basecoat and have never had any problems.

If you mean silvering when you say "glazing", you could also polish the paint underneath so that it's glossy. As long as decals are going over a glossy finish, it doesn't matter whether there's a clearcoat or not. Use enough microset and microsol, and a semi-flat finish will be ok sometimes, too.
