It was only a matter of time before I've developed the Modeller's curse of starting several projects but not really finishing any. I've been toying around with scratchbuilding a Zodiac inflatable with an outboard. I know Hobby Fan has the SEAL team with the Zodiac but it costs a bomb here. Any ideas on whether its even feasible to build a Zodiac in 1:35.
Thanks in advance.

It should be pretty easy to do actually. Best bet would be to get some two part epoxy putty, like A & B brand. Roll out your mixed putty into a snake like you did with playdough. Next, form it into a Zodiac shape and let cure. For the floor and transom, you can use sheet plastic. The engine doesn't seem too difficult either. A box on top with a post going down into the water.
Another option is to look for the old Italeri Frog Men figure kit. This has a Zodiac with engine and crew in wetsuits. Also, Monogram made a UDT Team Boat a while back that had a Zodiac in it as well, no engine on this one though. Both were in 1/35 scale.

Thanks for the practical ideas HeavyArty. I tried looking for the old sets you mentioned on some of the online stores and on the Italeri website but no sign. I guess they must have gone out of production. Thanks again.

It is possible to build almost anything from scratch depending on how patient you can be and also whether you have some ideas of real sizes so you can scale them done.

Came across a built-up Italeri Zodiac from the Frog Men kit too. Zodiac

Many thanks HeavyArty for keeping an eye out for me on the Zodiac. The UDT is a bit too big for the dio I had in mind but the Italeri Zodiac is just the ticket. I did try to look for it on the Italeri website and some of the online shops but I didn't find it. I was contemplating scratch building it or looking for a close as possible to scale model in the plastic toys section, you know, one of those Made In Hongkong or China jobs. Maybe I'll checking out more online shops.
