Hi fellas,

I could use a bit of advice with regards to paining PE parts. Normally I don't bother priming my models, I just use Tamiya or Gunze acrylics and that seems fine. But it didn't work so well with a large PE engine grille on my current tank. The paint just scrapes off.

I tried AK primer and same thing. I've looked on youtube and one suggestion is metal primer.

I was wondering what you guys do.

I use Tamiya Extra Fine or Mr Surfacer 1200 in the rattlecan to prime everything,it works on PE.For the grills,I spray for a little greater distance so as not to clog the screens.

This one from VMS is a modelling primer specific for metal. Haven't used it myself but have heard good things:

Anthony, would you mind if I asked what precautions you take using a rattle can? I've never used one but I find myself with no alternative at the moment but to use a Tamiya Fine Surface Primer and I'm very wary of using it. I don't have a mask, so is doing it outside good enough? And do you wear gloves and goggles?

Thanks fellas. Would you brush on those metal primers or do you have to spray them? I would imagine you could get away with brushing on small parts but what about something like a side skirt on a tank or a tank gun barrel?

I think that you can try to do the spraying outside. That is the more economical option. But, if you want to do a lot of spraying. I would at least invest in a good spray booth, like I have from Fengda. Or you could buy a mask. I would certainly use gloves, because you don't want to paint your fingers or hand.
