I also would want to take a shot at BAC's PAF build and am planning to convert a SH-60 Seahawk into one of our country's two S-70A-5 Blackhawks. I've been surfing the net for any reference pictures but all I found are two small low resolution and low quality pictures of these crafts. Does any of the people here know where I can get better pictures for either of these two crafts? I believe one is being used as a presidential helicopter while the other is a rescue vehicle.

Please help!

Doc Hermie aka Guarnere has a boxful of references about the presidential chopper. It's actually one of his still unfinished projects. The detail he put into it is unbelievable. It looks like all it needs is a tank of gas and away it goes. You might be able to persuade him to bring it to one of the meetings. Make sure you bring a camera. And don't drool

Ooooohhhhhhh.......
You mean this project of his?

It's probably one of the most nerve-wracking nerve-wracker a nerve-wracker can nerve-wrack about.
To do this he first got hold of about 1 inch thick worth of pictures taken from the chopper from inside out. :-) :-) :-)

Nope! that's one being used as a presidential helicopter while the other as a spare parts source

Technically, that would be more difficult since now you're obliged to model that chopper with internal parts exposed!
Anyway, don't be discouraged! Doc Hermie's got 20+ years worth of modelling experience. He has been in the hobby a very long time. You on the other hand has how many years alredy? In time you'll gain enough experience to model something of the same or more amount of detail.

go start wreckin' yer nerve-wreckin'-nerve-wrecked kit! doing that already-wrecked chop-chop won't do anyone good... or you could do the kit as though it has been chop-chopped as well! hehehe

but kidding aside, there are no obligations as to which one you'd model. the thing that matters is that you gave it a shot!

CBrain,

There were in fact two S-70s bought by the PAF. One crashed in Mindoro in 1992. Im not sure what scheme it carried or what role, but I believe it also carried the Presidential livery.

The surviving S-70 is the one being built by Hermie. It has a white upper fuselage with graduating hues of blue all the way to the bottom.

If I may say, try building your S-70 in time for this year's BACup. Hermie's S-70 wont be finished in about 1 more year, I reckon. He told me so himself.

Meekai's right. The thing is that you give it a shot. And, more importantly, that you enjoy while doing so. Ive been wanting to build a 72nd scale kit of that myself, and honestly was a little intimidated by Hermie's S-70. But now Ive decided to build one for myself regardless. But not this year, though.

Well, I have decided to do away with the PAF S-70A-5 project for the moment. As I reviewed my kit I realized that converting a Sea Hawk to a Blackhawk won't be a very easy task and that I might do more harm than good. I tried to shop around for a reasonably priced 1/72 UH-60 Blackhawk kit but to no avail. I only found a rather pricey Fujimi kit which didn't catch my fancy. I heard there's an Academy kit at a larger scale so I may start hunting for that.

Anyway, since the 1/72 Tamiya SH-60 Sea Hawk is already in my grubby hands, I might as well build this kit.... it came with 3 different sets of decals (2 for the US Navy and 1 for the Japanese SH-60J. I didn't like the dull US Navy low-viz version so I will just do the Jap version.

Not very soon, unless i find a solution to this problem:

Mukhang kinapos sa plastic ang Tamiya when they manufactured this canopy / windshield

Another shot:

With the Tamiya logo box art this time.

One more for the last time:

What a bummer.

Looks like I have to learn how to vacuform.... not! Ewww...

You could ask the store you bought it from for a replacement. Ask some of the guys on yahoogroups. Someone might have a spare.

Will Lil's Parksquare replace that? Oh yeah.... I've already lost the receipt and I purchased this kit around 2-3 months ago.... I don't think they would remember me purchasing it from them.

Is there any soul out there willing to spare me their blackhawk/seahawk canopies? Scale is 1/72.

No harm in trying. You can always ask them to leaf through the sales receipts

Cbrain,

Several months ago we chanced by this 1/72 Hasegawa HH-60D rip off kit in Uniwide. They sold it at P29.95! and then at P19.95!! Yes, I cant believe it myself. I bought quite a number of them but Im not sure if it will fit Tamiya/Italeri (I assume your kit is in 1/72?). Why dont I give you a sample windscreen and check it out for yourself? I can meet you in Makati Monday if youre free.

What?! What branch of Uniwide is that?

Hmn.... since you mentioned that you bought quite a number of them kits, I presume that naubos mo na yung stock nila nyan? Hmn... would you be willing to sell me one of the kits? Maski tubuan mo pa ng pamasahe mo... ehehehe.

Monday? Pwede rin but I can only meet you after office hours. 4pm labas ko ng office from Alabang and I can get there siguro in approximately an hour or so (hopefully walang traffic). Tamang-tama baka makadaan na rin ako sa hobbyshop ng MCS. Where in Makati can I meet you?

Hmn... talaga lang ha? So, who's the other culprit who got the rest of the kits?

Do you have any idea if Uniwide intends to re-stock their supply of these kits? When?

I'm a bit late in this tread, but i'd like to say that the details on Doc Hermie's Chopper are just INSANE! It's just not right for someone to be that good and still make a living! If that were me, i suppose i'd have to quit working and quit sleeping! LOL!

Shrikes,

Welcome aboard!

Details on Doc Hermie's S-70 insane? Its not insane, its OBSCENE!!! People like us should not have been shown something like that. Its too depressing. LOL

Btw, I heard that some aeronautics students are asking Hermie for some directions on how to put together an S-70 engine. :-)
