Perhaps not directly of interest to site members, but this guy was the template for the Richard Burton character in the 1970s film "The Wild Geese". Anyone for an African diorama of mercenaries in the Congo?

Hi,

always fancied a 5 commando jeep ever since I first read about them/him in War Machines since I was a kid. Might get round to it one day. Fascinating story though.

I actually met him in S Africa back in the '80s. He was having a dram or two at the Hilton Hotel outside Pietermaritzburg in Natal. A real gentleman.

Much of his Africa time was spent in Katanga.

He made the 100 year mark too!
