For example, I’ll show you how to do a T-55 turret. This model is 1/16th scale. You need 2 types of putty, one is fast curing and the other is slow curing. The fast curing (Propoxy20 pictures at right in gray tube) is needed as a support structure to hold the shape together and the slow curing (A+B pictured center, Magic sculpt pictured left or Milliput not pictured) is for shaping the turret

1
Make a styrene hollow frame of the bottom ring and the top plate of the turret with cutouts of the cupolas (pictured below). Glue both parts with a temporary brace shaped like the silhouette of the turret in the center line of the turret. The brace is to give you the actual height of the turret. The 2 braces next to the middle brace are the opening position of the gun mantle.

2
Apply the fast curing putty (Propoxy20 gray) on the inside of the frame to make the turret wall. Let cure for about 20 minutes. After curing, apply the slow set putty on the walls you have just created with the fast cure. Let it set overnight or at least until the putty has cured completely, remove the temporary brace then sand and shape until you get the right shape, apply more putty if needed.

3
After you are satisfied with the turret shape, add your details (Cupolas, sites, etc…)

If you have any questions, please drop me a note.
Best regards and happy modeling.
