Here are my latest works. The figure is my AGE campaign entry. The tank as you can see has no Zimmeritt!! #:-) #:-) #:-) And trust me, the tank crew is a lot less glossy than what you are seeing.

Might as well tell us how did you work on detailing those tracks?

Simple. Don't use metallic colors as base coat, they're too.........metallic! :-) :-) :-)
1) I used a basecoat of lightened flat earth.
2) Gave it washes of orange (for rust) & burnt umber (to darken)
3) Drybrushed with metallic grey to highlight parts that easily wear followed by a
drybrushing of Silver for the extreme highlights.

Another method IF you don't wan't to make the track look to rusty or earthy is by using a very dark grey basecoat & weathered just as the same (Use less orange washes of course).

Amen to that! I''m currently building my M4A3E2 and by next week, I'll do the tracks. Thanks for the technique!

Fritz: Nice job on the Panther....like the weathering. The figure is beautifully done -- love it. I just have a few comments (just an obervation, I may be wrong) .

1) Maybe you could lighten the muzzle (if it is not part of the camo). The muzzle is the bread and butter of tank commanders and they always see to it it is as clean as possible. Muzzles or cannons usually go black if black gun powder is used w/c is not anymore in use during those times.
2) The schuerze is supposed to be a thick metallic plat that acts as additional protection. It is not supposed to bend -- it could either be torn off but not bend. That is one of the reason why I scratchbuilt my own rather than use the plastic (if you are interested, I used the aluminum used for leche flan). The panther schuserzen is not similar to those used on tiger tanks...
3) You could also weather the road wheels especially the rim (before the rubber - they normally scratch against the tracks). You could use som pencil lead.

Overall, the tank is impressive...

PS

For rust, one can also use burnt sienna oil paint..

:-H

Thanks for the comments!
I weathered the muzzle like that to match the weathering on the tank. A really dusty & heavily scratched tank won't look good with a pristine condition muzzle. BTW, black powder or not it's still fire burning on a solvent based paint (not to mention they used fuel to thin down the paint). So I guess (I could be wrong also) through time the muzzle will blacken.
The schuserzen, well I guess it's too late for that...
But then, those armor plates are thin & unless they used Titanic-like steel, they COULD bend.

Fritz: The comment/observation I gave is the same I got when I posted my panther in the rivet review. They even told me to put a periscope on the commander's coupola w/c I did...I used the plastic from an old CD case.

Are you planning to do dio for your panther...it will definitely look good...

Blame the shininess on the photographer's pasmado hands hehe I can attest that the figs aren't that shiny in real life. Honest

Forgot that periscope detail warthog. Thanks for reminding me!

As for the schurtzen, methinks it would depend on how they were attached to the tank. Panzer IIIs and IVs had schurtzen that were just hung on hooks so they were prone to falling off before they even started bending. I'm not sure how the Panther's skirts are attached though.

Definitely impressive Fritz. I could learn a thing or two about painting tank tracks.

Fritz, you really have a good "eye" on details. especially on weathering. I have to agree with you that putting figures on tanks makes it more convincing giving you more "Attachment" to the machine..
Overall I like the "rain marks"
