Hi team. Does anyone know the technical term for the points that gear gets strapped down to? Or better yet know how I can make some for 1/35 jeep so I can tie gear down to the bonnet etc? Thanks

"lashing points" is a term I've heard frequently used.

unfortunately Jeeps did not have "bonnets". quite a few had "hoods". they were an American invention.

Did they jeeps retain their hoods when they were in service with Commonwealth troops or did they replace them with bonnets?

They are called "footman loops".

They can made by bending thin wire or stretched sprue to shape. They are also available in resin from a few different manufacturers.

Unless modified by some enterprising Motor Pool folk, Jeeps did not have footman loops on the front to the best of my knowledge. Any stowage up front would need to be lashed to whatever was handy - the T-hooks for the windshield, the grille, the windshield support arms, wrapped under the hood, etc. If the windshield was folded down then stuff could have straps around it. Bear in mind a big pile of stuff on the hood might just impair the driver's view of the road!

My apologies all. In New Zealand we tend to call it a bonnet, forgot that the rest of the world call it the hood. My jeep is going to be an IDF one and there are a few photos around of the lashing gear to the hood. Thanks for all your help so far guys

it was meant 'tongue in cheek'. I quite often forget the "www" means World Wide Web.

I mean, for the longest time I thought Anzac was a new breakfast cereal!

emails & thread postings are far from the perfect form of communication.

Ah - by the time the IDF got them, those jeeps were second- or third-hand, so may well have lots of modifications!

Like the French waiter said in Glory Road when asked if he spoke English, "Yes, and I understand American, too...".

Yeah, and the IDF are kings of modification as well. Oh well, DIY time then I guess
