I wasn't sure which forum to post this question on, but since it deals with more of a historical and factual based question, I figured this would work.
I recently ordered and read 'Rudder's Rangers' by Ronald Lane and 'The Liberation of Pointe du Hoc' by Joanna McDonald for a diorama that I'm attempting to build. Very good books by the way.
My question I'm looking for assistance is, has anybody been to Pointe du Hoc and been inside the Fire Control bunker (where the Ranger Memorial stands)?
I'm trying to figure out if there was some type of light source inside the bunker.
Besides the front OP room, I would figure that most other rooms would be equipped with a light source of some kind, be it light bulb, lantern or something.
Also if anyone has any pictures of the inside of this structure that they would be willing to email me, I would greatly appreciate it.
thanks

Hey Peacemaker-
Yes - I have been there, and took a ton of pictures.... as far as I remember - no wiring for lights. I'm sure the Germans used lanterns, but there were no light switches or bulbs that I recall.
I will see if I can scan in my pictures for you... most of the bunkers have been pretty well destroyed - but I did get some good layout shots.
My picture album is in Iowa with the Ex wife now, so I'll have to give her a call. I'll keep you posted.
Later-
Jeff

I have also been there. The bunker at the head of the point is a two door affair that shows the faint signs of being blasted with grenades and a flame thrower. It has firing ports but as I recall they are too high to cover the approach up the cliffs. I will scan my photos and send to you.

For all that are interested, the Ranger Association is working to move the Ranger Memorial, as that part of Pointe du Hoc has been fenced off. The Pointe is eroding and visitors can no longer get to the memorial.

Jeff-- truly one of the most inspirsational monuments in existence. I hope they take it out of there for other equally dangerous eroding reasons....

That is a worthy thought to put forth to the Ranger Association.

bump....
Gents, was there any luck locating pictures?
I'm now trying to scratchbuild, in detail, the inside of this bunker so any pictures, especially of the inside, would be greatly appreciated.
Or know of a source that I can contact to get pics of the inside.
I thought about emailing the Ranger Association, but wasn't sure if that would work.
