Hi all!

For a study project I need to measure (so so off course); how many people around the world make models.

Do you have any idea about it?

TIA

Álvaro

Count me as No.3.

Try contacting Tamiya USA and ask them if they have an idea based on sales.

I think you're asking the wrong group here. I'd go to IPMS and ask them, or you might poll the editors of various modeling websites and magazines to see what their readership is. Then there's always the "hard cover" magazine publishers-- you can find their circulation statistics usually somewhere in their publishing information, or sometimes in their internet site information. But you need to refine the question somewhat. Are you looking for all types of modelers or only plastic modelers? (remember, there are plastic modelers, wood shipbuilders, RC aircraft and car modelers, scratch builders, figure modelers, model railroaders, pro-builders etc.) having said that, I think I read an article over at IPMS that estimated there were close to 250,000 active plastic modelers worldwide. But not all modelers are members of IPMS (for instance I'm not a member). And are you looking for "casual modelers" or folks that build routinely? Just some suggestions where to look and some things to think about. Good luck with your research. I can vouch for my local club, which has 350 "registered" modeler members, that's about it.

Just a quick addition to my earlier post-- we hold two large modeling events where I live. At each of these events, we have close to 1,000 models on display on average. And attendance by model builders usually is in the neighborhood of 300-400 active modelers, but our attendance figures usually are close to 1,000 or more, which tells me there is an equal number or greater number of "interested" modelers out there than there are "active" builders-- just another thing to think about in your poll.

It's impossible to find out.
There is 7.5 billion people on the planet and even if 1% of that make models it way too much.
I would go with a figure between 1 to 10 million.

Are you asking how many people have built a model? That's in the millions worldwide.

It's like how many people have a train set versus have a permanent layout and consider themselves a "model railroader"

How many consider it their hobby and build on a (irr-)regular basis measured as so many hours a week versus the person who built one model when they were 14.

Set your criteria and collect your data to establish an estimate. As posted previously there are plenty of sources to compile numbers from.
