I may not be a good figure painter, tell me what you think on my unfinished Tank Commander. I've used choco-chip camo using light sand as base coat, flat brown, white and using a 0.2 tech pen for the borders of the white patches.

Shiny?? It'll be toned down later with a matt finish.

Niiiiiiiccccccceeeeeeeee.......................
Really lookin' good there. Adding more definition to the seams & shadows would improve this one further.

Yep. the moulding of the face looks terrible. I prefer Dragon, Tamiya and/or Academy than this one.

You know "spot wash"? its a wash that's only applied to panel lines & seams to accentuate them. You could use that & about the shading, there's an article here in armorama concerning modern amercan uniforms & I think the article also has shading instructions.

Well if you're on modern figures I suggest that you just prefer Dragon (watch out though & don't buy the old ones coz they suck), & Tamiya (also watch out coz the old ones will REALLY suck). Academy on the other hand, well unless they hire a good sculptor like Vincent Wai they will forever churn out really bad figures (especially their almost signature of really deformed/oversized heads). So technically the only safe brands on modern figures are resin figure brands. ...................isn't it sad?

This fig was just included in the Trumpeter M1A1HA. My other M1A1HA, the Dragon ones, has very nice figs to boot.

On that deformed and unproportionality note, I have to agree...

Last few weeks I've tried to work on Academy's 'cast' of Tamiya's (or is it the other way around..) mortar crew. (Yung tatlong figs tapos may mortar...) I tried to do a 'head transplant', so I cleaved off the old head and replaced it with a spare resin head from Wes miniatures....Para ngang mindi compatible yung ulo, kase medyo malaki....

In this case, parang mas may tiwala ako sa scaling ng Wes....XP

That's because WES products are unauthorized copies of Warriors & Verlinden products.
Talk about piracy!

Shonnen you can actually do a minor head transplant . just replace it with DML or Tamiya heads.
I agree with Fritz.. the new DML and Tamiya has the best figures. Another attractive figures are Tristar but they're only German figures. I bought the two volumes of Tank Riders and also got DML's Tank riders. I only replace this with Hornet heads

Nice job, Shonen!

Its a little glossy, yes. But you can make do without a matt coat. If youre using Tamiya enamels, get yourself a Flat Base (X-21) and mix about 10% to the paint youre using. The paint will definitely dry flat.

An easier way to do the dark borders on the pebbles would be to paint the dark splotches on and then put a dab of white/light tan paint right in the middle of it.
