Okay, well I just got done watching the cross of iron and loved it as usual. I must have seen this movie 40-50 times since I bought it 20 years ago maybe. So, I decided to start a little conversation segment here kind of like a what if situation.
Here's a couple of questions to ponder based on the movie.
Sergeant Steiner, whatever happened to him?
Did he live till the end of the war, or did he die fighting?
If you did survive the war what do you think he would have been in civilian life?
Knowing his character, like to know your opinions on the what if scenario of these questions and also if you have questions I could follow up as well. Kind of makes you wonder if there would have been A Part 2 to the Cross of iron, nope!
In my opinion I don't think so I think it ended just as is.
But if you think about it you could ask the same questions about the other main characters as well but then you can get into one of those deep conversations that you might not be able to get out of.
Like I said, just a few questions something to ponder if need be. 
I think Steiner would have survived, and probably, as a civilian, would have kicked around from job to job, as he probably sees the futility in ambition.
If there had been a sequel, and focusing solely on the war years, it wouldn't have taken place too far past the original CoI, which I think takes place in spring/summer of 1943. Maybe could it have been a continuation of the first movie, or, focusing on the German surrender, and we follow Steiner back to whatever home he might have left, as a civilian, and the hardships endured.
For the other characters, it'd be interesting to see what became of the regimental commander, as well as the leutenant
that machine-gunned Steiner's squad as they came into the German lines (or did he killed in the movie? I don't remember). Of course too, what became of the Captain who so dearly wanted his CoI.
