I've picked up my dad's soldering wire for my scratchbuild project. Problem is, it is coiled and looks more like a spring. Now how do I straighten it?

make a loop on each end. and hang it from a nail and add a weight to the bottom. let it hang for a while.

You can also clear a space on your work-table and straighten it out with a ruler or other flat tool. Roll the solder between the ruler and the tabletop - "rolling pin" style - and you'll straighten it out. Works great for solder...
