I purchased a built Me-410 kit online only to discover that the builder modified the markings to depict a fictitious bird (or at least one I can't verify) for some bizarre reason. The basic model and elaborate paint scheme is very good and fits one of the known schemes perfectly, but I'd like to remove the bogus markings and "convert" the build back to the original subject.

What's the best liquid solution (pun intended) to remove decals without putting the underlying paint job at risk. A few years ago I used a bottled product whose name I forget, and haven't had occasion attempt this in many moons.

All suggestions welcome.

Do you know anything about the paintjob as such?
What kind, brand and/or type, of paint was used?
Clear coats to seal in the decals?

No matter what paint type was used, if the decals have been sealed
with a top coat, about the only solution is slowly wet sanding them
off with extra fine sand paper.

Any liquid remover will certainly affect the underlying paint job.

Wet sanding works great for me as I have often relettered and renumbered
both aircraft and modelrailroad items, for clients.
