My father in law offered to build me a new modeling bench. My modeling space is a corner of our family room. It's grown over the years with the patient support of my wife. Here is a picture of the original modelbench made up of a desk and table with sheet plywood on top.



A nice functional space but a bit messy and awkward to use.

My Father in Law wasn't sure of the size of the CO2 tank I use for airbrushing. We had to make several cuts so that it would fit with easy access and a nice safe upright position:





I will purchase a shorter air hose.

Wow, that's a great improvement-- you must have a great Father-in-Law -- or maybe he just knows you are a great Son-in-Law! Seems you live in Washington-- maybe I should get your Father-in-Laws phone number!-- his work is very professional! If I could make one suggestion, if you haven't already, go to a local glass shop and get a 1/4 inch sheet of glass to cover the top-- you won't regret it when you spill a little CA or paint! 😉

Russ, my FIL is pretty cool. He lives in CA though Nice idea with the glass. I'll continue with the big cutting mat. Doesn't look as nice as wood but it's spill and knife proof.

The CO2 tank in position with the parts bins in front. I will replace the air hose with a short piece. Final routing will depend on how I hook up the spray hood, airbrush holder and pressure regulator.



Here is the table top with the access panel. It's all rough cut at the moment. I'll tune it up once it's all together.

Looks great , as a Woodworker myself I know the BS that comes with cutting sheet ply.
Head ups to your Father in Law.
So Co2 you say, I have 3 of them 2 ,5's and 20 lb one.
Do they last long?
I run a cheap Home Depot compressor one in my room, loud as get out ,but gets the job done.
Nice looking deal.

Jeff, the CO2 tank is great. My tank lasts several years between fill ups. No moisture trap needed and it's quiet. All you hear is the gas going through the brush. Since the model bench is in the family room the lack of noise is appreciated by the family!

Wow I could get them all filled, would last until I kick the bucket, my big tank needs a hydro static test done as past it's 5 year mark, the 2 5's getting close.
I might just keep what I have, but when I paint at night the wife gets a little antsy if you know what I mean.

Congratulations, it's a nice workbench...

Finally have the spray station up and running. It took a while. I decided replace the long yellow air hose with a 3 ft length. Now it all fits better and the garage compressor gets its air hose back.

Now to get it dirty
