Trying to build a Tamiya '66 Bug as a tribute car to my mothers original '66, but I can't find any info on blending paints to produce this color. Any help appreciated.

When doing civilian vehicles, I like it to use actual automotive paint, available at most chain Auto parts stores. Failing that, you can find it online, Granted, a '66 VW is not the most common vehicle these days, but it certainly was at one time. If I can find Glory Brown for a fairly rare CB500 Twin, you should have no trouble. Try DuPont.

I really don't want the sovents associated with automotive paints, and have some doubts about the effects on platic.

As you should, which is why I always use a good barrier before painting. Personally, I'd be more worried about the lead content.

Have you considered contacting a local VW dealership for a bottle of touch-up paint in that color? If any of their recent models are available in Sea Blue they should have some in the parts department retail shop.

My next door neighbor is a bonafide VW freak. He's got a blue one parked behind his house that is all original, but I don't think it's Sea Blue, and I'm not going to climb over our fence tonight to find out. Your quandary is this - which Sea Blue do you want to go for?

My first car was a 1969 Type 281 (7-seater, lhd, rh sliding door); all my subsequent cars have been VW's. I am to the Transporter what your neighbor is to the Beetle. I can say, judging from what I have seen of Sea Blue at shows is that I would go with the Sea Blue #2, as the live vehicles tend to have a brighter tone, I think.

Update. Not happy at all with the color I purchased and have changed the model to a Pigall version. Will post pic's when a little further along.

Yes! That special edition looks like a whorehouse inside, but it's unique.

Learned three things today:
1. Never heard of Marabou Pigall before, Googled it and it does exist. Little did I know but I'm not much of candy man anyway.
2. VW Pigalle. Total news to me but I was too young back then to care much about VW interiors. Dads Mercedes-Benz 190D, 1965 with the little winglets, was red inside though ...



3. Didn't know what the insides of a house of negotiable temporary affection looks like either ...
