I am trying to model in 1/35 and 1/32 figures of the British army during 1970-1980s period, location Europe, I need information on the shape and fixing of the anklets, any help will be greatly appreciated, Keith

There is an osprey book on uniforms in the 80s,that may help, we used putties in the queen's division, anklets seamed to be on corps personnel buckle's to outside and threaded front to rear seam inline with trousers seam, some white some black in camp and in field original colour if worn(officers/WOs).

My recollection is that all bar the RAC would have puttees. They are wound round the ankle with the point on the outside pointing to the rear. The tape is wrapped around the middle and then tucked around the point - hard to explain. The RAC didn't wear them because they got caught in vehicles. If you want to be really pedantic officers had a lighter colour of puttee than ORs (I did until I caught them on some barbed wire). Its an age thing! Hope this helps.
