I'm trying to determine if the M3 Lee was fighting in N. Africa
at the same time the Tiger I was deployed there. I saw some
data indicating the Grant under British command had some battles
with the Tigers. I have not found anything about the Lee.
If anyone could shed some light on this it would be helpful.
Thanks All,

Hi Tony,
A quick look at some of my references shows the US 13th Armored Regiment of the 1st Armored Division used the M3 Lee in front line combat in Tunisia. Several photos are available on line of M3s of the 2nd Battalion in Tunisia. They faced off against German Panzer Army Africa units that fielded Tigers in combat around Sbeitla and Kasserine. One unit was the 59st Tiger Detachment. I'm not sure if there were others.
This should give you a starting point for further investigation.
Hope this helps.
John

Of note: the 1st AD was the only US armored division to see combat without being trained in desert warfare. It was created and trained in the eastern US and sent to the UK prior to Operation Torch.

Thanks for the reply. That will provide enough data to allow for
some more investigation.
Appreciate the help
