had a stuck lid on this glass paint bottle,so decided to use mole grips to try to undo it............oops! luckily it was over the desk when the top (glass and lid) shattered, i was putting it down to drill a hole in the top to pour it out. being a 'fessional modeler after i cleaned my hand i used the paint off the top to paint in some tiny details on a tornado cockpit before i cleaned it up!

Whooops! :-)

You're lucky you didn't seriously hurt yourself.........

Next time put the jar in hot water, NOT boiling hot, just hot, the pressure increase inside the jar will help open it.....or just put the jar in upside down so just the lid is submerged, the meatl should expand enough for you to open it............

You could also flip the bottle upside down and put a drop of thinner in lid rim. Leave it a few minutes and it should twist right off

With stuck lids on jars of enamel paint try this: Set the jar upside down on a plate and pour some thinner in between the lid and the jar. If you let it set for a while it will loosen the dried paint and you should be able to open it right up. (And maybe avoid some stitches )

This has happened to me countless times, but I never knew about the thinner method. I will try that next time.

And always try to remember to wipe the jar of paint before you put the lid on, to get all the paint off the threads, then this will never happen. We all learn from our mistakes, maybe with luck we can stop the others from making the same ones we did.

Quite the mess there. Looks about like my desk yesterday after splashing black paint all over and spilling my remainder of OD.

Coincidentally enough, I had the broke jar thing happen to me a couple months back with a jar of Model Master Flat Black... except I never got to the point of using pliers or vise grips on it. I had just tried to twist it off with my hands and the glass shattered.

Somewhere I got a tip to wipe off the jar threads and put some Vaseline on the threads. No problem since.
