Would I be correct in thinking that an M7 Priest would have the gunsights removed and stowed if the vehicle was being transported (for instance, on a tank transporter) and if so, which part of the sights would actually be removed? The DML M7 has a three part sight/mounting with very little information about how it goes together.

Yes, the sights would most likely be removed if the gun was being transported.

If you look at the pic below, you will see the azimuth (directional) sight with the round part on the bottom and a post sticking up. There is also a knob just below the round part. This knob allows the sight to be removed and leaves just the "L" bracket it is sitting on.



You can see a similar setup on the right side for the quadrant (elevation) sight. The knob below it also allows for it to be removed, leaving the triangulat post mount.
