I intend to backdate the M109A3 AFV Club truck to an M109. I know that the exhaust exits behind the right, rear tire and can see some smaller modifications. But, I am unable to find many reference photos or books(just a partial, technical manual). Can anyone point me, in the right direction? I'm clearing my bench, for this one. I appreciate any advice offered.

Ill have to find the M-35 books I have been using... seem to be pretty good for details. Wikipedia had a good shot of one too under the M-35A2 variant truck

Thank you. I checked Wikipedia, but it only shows the M109A3. The exhaust is in the wrong location and body details are slightly different from the M109.

For the basic truck, the changes are minor to backdate it to an M35A1. All you need to do is reroute the exhaust so it goes along the right side frame and comes out between the rear wheels. Fill the hole on the right fender where the exhaust went through. Change the rear lights to the older style as seen on an M113 or M151A1 jeep. The front marker lights should also be replaced by the earlier style lights, same as the back lights. That is about it for external changes.

All of the above conversion parts come in the AFV Club M35A1 Nancy guntruck kit.

Back-dated exhaust pipe on A1 kit.

You can see where it comes out between the rear wheels here.

Front turn signals.

Rear turn/tail light.

A1 showing front turn signals and no exhaust stack.

A1 rear lights as seen on Nancy model.

Here is a review article by Jim "Guntruck" Lewis that explains all the changes as well. M35A1 Guntruck, Nancy.

Many thanks. Your link is broken.

Gino, you are a wealth of information. Can't thank you enough. I am attempting to recreate the truck my dad was issued, while in the EOD, cir 1973.

No problem. Good luck with it and show us some pics when you get it going. I may get one of these too. I had one as my home for a while when I was a young 2LT in 1 CAV. It was outfitted as a command post when we were doing a deployment exercise. I was in charge of a muster lot as the vehicles came to the railhead and waited to be loaded onto train cars.

I'm clearing my bench, for this one. Ordering two M109A3's and two M35A1's, just in case.
