The M47M postdates German use. So many went to the Germans, but as the Bundeswehr re equipped with other tanks they were passed on to others and those participated in the "M" upgrades. Additionally there were others that were supplied out right by the U.S. that served in Spain, Turkey etc who updated rather than replace.
But no "M" in Bundeswehr service. The Germans never updated the engines in their M48A2 either and they lasted much longer in service.

The Germans were already getting the M48 A1 in 1957 and the M48 A2C in 1959 started to replace the M47s.
