This question applies to all variants and vehicles built on this chassis; Marders, Gepards, etc. Looking around at the internet for references, I find mostly photos of completed models. Colors are varied. Red oxide seems the most common color for the interior of the compartment itself. Many of the larger items like fuel tanks are often a green color. Parts of the engine itself can vary greatly, both in color of large items and colors of caps, handles, etc. It seems like historical accuracy is like a needle in a haystack. I also recognize that changing subcontractors, supply availability, changes in policy, and other factors can cause more than one variation to have occurred at different times. Same is true for some transmission and associated mechanical components where the driver and/or radio operator sits. I've pretty much decided to go with what seem to be common colors on a lot of parts. Help.

I'm not sure what your question is.? You seem to have done the research and decided what colors to go with.

I hope a Hetzer engine compartment helps. However sixty plus years of oil, soot and grime have to be taken into account:

This was a running vehicle at the time of this maintenance (radiator problems). The bottom photo shows the vehicle in its' most recent repaint. I also have detail photos of the disasembled radiator and fan assembly if needed.

I'd almost forgotten I asked. As for making up my mind, I plead guilty to being heavily influenced by the photos of other modelers. The hetzer pictures are very helpful and the wires and tubes are intimidating considering there are so many and none come with the kit. Especially since the kit parts basically have to go in first before any scratch building since they have to be persuaded to fit, at least for my clumsy hands. It does seem from the photos that reality is often much less colorful than modelers' imaginations.

Of course you are going to be modeling a vehicle that has only been in service a few months to a year. So much cleaner on the inside.

I didn't realize that subject was that late in the war only. I figured to do a medium level of wear and tear - neither too light nor too heavy, and a little more interior in the engine and driver's areas than the kit provides.

I understand, I do the same thing. I add just enough to make it look complex but do not add every wire and tube.

The work below is far from perfect but here is an engine I cobbled together for a German Sd. Kfz. 10 (Demag D7) all in all suitably complex.

That picture gives me some good ideas. I'm just about ready to start adding detail.

That's a super reference. It's probably a bit late for me to do much of what's there, but I will definitely try some - within reason. I want to keep my sanity. Is there a similar link for the driver's compartment with transmission?

Yes, I have one which I think is the marder but it shows a lot, I will find it for you when I leave work, those shots above do give you the rear front view of the engine bulkhead though.

radio racks are like this

Found the link I was after, now remember a couple of things on the marder are different but it is basically the same, there is on the marder an inverted v structure on the rear bulkhead on some variants as an example to carry the gun up top..

https://www.imx365.net/blog/weblog-19383-1.html

This is what you want, can't vouch for the colour though the side walls look oversprayed over the white/cream in the past.

http://planetarmor.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5863&page=2

I am trying to build an interior into the 1/16 version to do a knocked out one, hence all the links I have found
you can tell thats is a marder version as it has the cut down propshaft with the engine being moved forward, but the drive stuff and some of the other parts will be correct, as they will be common, the cabin walls are cut down too so some items will have moved, but the layout should be similar in places, so I refer to add on kits to get the details, i am scratch building the interior but as it will be destroyed a bit, accuracy isn't a major factor, especially as I have no dimensions lol so I am doing it by eye.

This will help explain the difference in interior colours

"As with the rest of this restoration, attention to detail inside was very important. Bovington’sJagdpanzer 38 was invaluable here. A great misconception is that all wartime Jagdpanzer 38s were all the same inside, not true. Early versions had all manner of accessories, such as gas mask holders and spare tube holders dotted around, later versions were much simplified inside, because of the relatively short period of production many changes took place over its manufacture, at one period such as Bovington’s BMM Jagdpanzer 38, an instruction to not paint the interiors white was given, just left in Red Oxide, which, one month later was revoked due to crews complaining they couldn’t see what they were doing."

More interior pictures of the interior of hertzer from Bruce Cromptons collection, try googling Bruce Cromptons and Combat Dealers as there was an episode on UK TV dealing with the tank in question including internally.
